Regattas on the Gorge were a famous Victoria tradition and part of the Queen's Birthday celebrations. In the 1890s the waterway attracted people from all over the Pacific NorthWest with boat races, firework displays, and marine parades. One of the largest estimated crowds was in 1947 when in 18,000 people llned the banks to watch the Regatta.
